The Marcello Duo formed in 2013 – first as a creative way of two friends exploring the rarely performed double-cello repertoire but very soon realising the format had an undeniable appeal and potential to draw the attention and interest of wider audiences.
We have since performed at numerous events including weddings, anniversaries, dinner parties and corporate banquets as well as free, charitable public performances to support and promote the Farnborough Symphony Orchestra of which we are both active members.
Magda’s fascination with the cello started when she first picked it up at the age of 6 and quickly proved to be a life long friendship. Having graduated from the Music Academy in Poland Magda spent several years traveling with her string quartet taking part in a host of musical events, from wedding ceremonies and corporate events to slightly more unusual Big Band collaborations and supporting live stage productions.
These days Magda’s idea of a perfect musical experience is a slightly more soloistic and intimate setting of a cello duet.
Robin began learning the cello at the age of 7 and won a Music Scholarship to Hampton School when he was 11. Torn between science and music, he decided upon an engineering degree at the University of Birmingham, but continued having cello lessons at the Birmingham Conservatoire. He studied for a number of years with the renowned Christopher Bunting – internationally respected teacher and performer, and pupil of the great Pablo Casals. In 1998 Robin joined the Farnborough Symphony Orchestra where he is now Principal Cello.
Robin thought musical perfection was only found in the string quartets of Beethoven until he started playing in a cello duo.
